New and Recurrent Major Events at AsiaWorld-Expo Reaffirm Hong Kong's Position as Convention, Exhibition and Tourism Capital

AsiaWorld-Expo, Asia's premier exhibition and events venue today announced a number of new and recurrent major exhibitions and conventions for 2008 and 2009, a vibrant line-up of world-class events that echoes the lately announced Government Budget Proposals for the Convention, Exhibition and Tourism Industry.

"This line-up of confirmed events is a testament to the venue's capacity, versatility and achievements as we celebrate our 2nd Anniversary. This season back in 2006, AsiaWorld-Expo welcomed its first series of major events. Only two years later, we have reinforced our position as Asia's leading exhibition and events venue with a vast array of international exhibitions, conventions, concerts and entertainment events on the 2008-2009 calendar," said Mr Allen Ha, Chief Executive Officer of AsiaWorld-Expo Management Limited.

"As the world's only exhibition and events venue integrated with an international airport with its in-venue MTR station, as well as the vast China market at the doorstep, AsiaWorld-Expo is uniquely positioned to lead the way in maintaining the industry's growth trajectory by successfully staging more international events," added Mr Ha.

Returning events include the Asian Aerospace International Expo and Congress, the world's largest dedicated commercial aerospace and civil aviation exhibition and congress to be held from 8-10 September in 2009. Introduced by world-leading exhibition organiser Reed Exhibitions, the event's inaugural presentation in 2007 saw an unrivalled representation by aerospace and aviation professionals from China and Asia Pacific countries. Also, Nu Skin Enterprises' three-day Greater China and South East Asia Regional Convention returns in May 2008. The convention in 2006, which saw over 12,000 delegates from the region and beyond, fully demonstrated the flexibility of AsiaWorld-Expo's world-class facility by utilising a flexible combination of a large-scale arena-style venue, smaller more intimate meeting spaces for interactive workshops, and impressive entertaining venues for networking with other delegates and business contacts.

Among the new events is Coffee Fest Asia's first international show to be held from 7-9 November 2008 in Hong Kong. A gathering of coffee retailers, distributors, manufacturers and roasters, the show will help attendees with their coffee business, share news and information about the industry and latest products, as well as provide networking opportunities for those keen to explore the Asian marketplace.

AsiaWorld-Expo will also play host to the 47th Orient and Southeast Asian Lions Forum (OSEAL Forum), which was held last year in Korea. In December 2008, around 8,000 Lions Club members are expected to gather to attend the four-day convention from 4-7 December 2008. Delegates will find many signature leisure and entertainment attractions close to AsiaWorld-Expo including Hong Kong Disneyland, SkyPlaza - the shopping and entertainment complex at Terminal 2 of the Hong Kong International Airport, the nine-hole SkyCity Nine Eagles Golf Course and the Ngong Ping Cable Car to the Big Buddha, which are all minutes away from AsiaWorld-Expo.

"The successful hosting of ITU TELECOM WORLD 2006 at AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong gave rise to the recognition of Hong Kong by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao as having the full potential to be the international hub of exhibitions and conventions of China. As demonstrated by other successful events including the Asian Aerospace International Expo and Congress and the China Sourcing Fairs, and with the support of the Hong Kong SAR Government as well as our unique position at the Hong Kong International Airport with the advantage of easy access to and from Mainland China and the rest of the world, Hong Kong simply has what it takes to become the Convention, Exhibition and Tourism Capital," added Mr Ha.

AsiaWorld-Expo is a public-private partnership between the Hong Kong SAR Government and a private sector consortium with the Government as the majority shareholder. In this respect, it will continue to work closely with the Government and the industry to facilitate the continuous growth of the Convention, Exhibition and Tourism industry and to make the most of the investment for the benefit of Hong Kong and the general public at large.
