AsiaWorld-Expo fosters economic growth with a decade of exciting and innovative EXPOtainment events
Presenting MAMA for the third time and the debut Food Truck Festival
AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE), the world’s leading EXPOtainment venue, hosts a cocktail reception today (2 December) in celebration of its 10th anniversary. Mr. John Tsang, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government and Dr. Peter Lam, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) join the AWE 10th Anniversary Gathering Event as officiating guests. Moving forward, AWE will continue to deliver innovative ideas to Hong Kong’s EXPOtainment industry and contribute local economic development as in the past.
“With the support of HKSAR Government and business partners, AWE has built up its brand as an international leading venue with mega EXPOtainment events. We have received industry-wide recognition with the prestigious ‘Best Venue Team in Asia-Pacific’ award, and being named among the top 3 ‘Best Convention and Exhibition Centres’ in Asia-Pacific for 4 consecutive years,” said Mr. Allen Ha, Chief Executive Officer of AsiaWorld-Expo Management Limited. “Upon the completion of various Lantau development projects in the coming years, demand for AWE facilities and services is expected to surge, and we are well positioned to seize new opportunities arising from the ongoing development of the Pearl River Delta. I would also like to express our sincere gratitude to our partners, the HKSAR Government, the Hong Kong Tourism Board, and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council for their generous support over the years. My thanks also go to my fellow staff members for their dedicated efforts in the past decade,” added Mr. Ha.
“Commerce and tourism industries – Hong Kong’s major pillars – have contributed tremendously to our economy, whereas the MICE industry is a core component among these industries. Over the past years, corporate conferences and expos have well served Hong Kong as bridges connecting business communities around the globe, and providing an effective international business-matching platform, while drawing a large number of overnight business travellers.” said Mr. John Tsang, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government, in his opening address. “I believe AsiaWorld-Expo will continue to unleash its enormous potential, and complement other top-class tourism attractions and leisure facilities on Lantau. I wish AsiaWorld-Expo further success in accelerating the development of MICE industry here in Hong Kong."
Dr. Peter Lam, Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, said, “As Lantau Island is fast developing into a tourism and transport hub, AWE will surely play an even more crucial role in catering for the new tourism traffic in the years to come. In the last decade, AWE and the Hong Kong Tourism Board have established a solid partnership in promoting Hong Kong as a world-class destination offering diverse tourism experiences. I very much look forward to an even stronger partnership and tap the opportunities brought by the new developments on Lantau Island and in Hong Kong tourism.”
2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) and MAMA Korean Goods Biz-Matching are being hosted in AWE on the same day. AWE is proud to be the first venue to house the music event for 3 consecutive years since 2013. MAMA is the major annual Korean music award ceremony with live performance. Under the same roof, the Korean Goods Biz-Matching showcases an array of fashion and cosmetic brands, promoting the Korean culture and offering trading platforms to stimulate business activities (demonstrates the innovative ideas of B2C cross-over B2B). The flagship music event is attended by top Korean and Hong Kong stars and artistes, while AWE is packed with fans from all over the world.
To introduce new catering theme as a boost to local tourism, AWE is collaborating with the Hong Kong Food Trucks Association (HKFTA) to present the inaugural Food Truck Festival. A line-up of food trucks will be introduced to the public for the first time in the territory. A wide variety of gourmet cuisines are served at the festival, including Korean fried chicken with kimchee, spare ribs, beef skewers, beer cheese hotdogs, gelato and Italian pizzas.
The HKFTA is established in April 2015 with increasing membership. Related details could be found in HKFTA’s website www.hkfta.net, and ”HKFTA” Facebook page.
