AsiaWorld-Expo Job Fair (Tung Chung), organised by AsiaWorld-Expo Management Limited and co-organised by the Islands District Office, the Hong Kong Outlying Islands Women's Association and the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Tung Chung Integrated Services, will be held at the Tung Chung Community Services Complex on 2 June 2009 (Tuesday).
More than 130 full-time, part-time and temporary job vacancies, including security guards, security officers, waiters, waitresses, pantry helpers, cashiers, venue cleaners, restroom cleaners and others, will be available at the fair. Some of the vacancies are suitable for applicants with less working experience. The monthly salary for full-time vacancies ranges from HK$5,000 to over HK$10,000; the hourly wage for part-time and temporary jobs starts from around HK$30 to HK$50. Some of the employed staff will start to work from mid-June at the earliest. To enhance the service quality, AsiaWorld-Expo will provide training courses to new part-time and temporary employees, or will arrange comprehensive training with the assistance of the non-profit organizations.
"With the successful hosting of many high-profile international exhibitions, conferences, banquets and concerts, we are glad to see that in the space of just 3 years, AsiaWorld-Expo’s international trade fairs have grown to account for close to 30% of the entire Hong Kong exhibition market. Based on this market share, AsiaWorld-Expo contributes around HK$8 billion (approx. US$1 billion) to the Hong Kong economy and provides an estimated 18,000 jobs every year," remarked Lau Hak Wah, Chief Operating Officer, AsiaWorld-Expo Management Limited.
Lau continued, "The number of part-time or temporary staff employed by AsiaWorld-Expo reaches a maximum of around 400 each day, and we have a tremendous need for manpower particularly in the exhibition peak seasons of spring and autumn. The part-time and temporary jobs at this fair come with very flexible terms, so applicants may choose the number of working days and time of work, and they can also benefit from the experience in different job functions. These jobs, I believe, can best suit the needs of the Tung Chung residents. From our past experience, our part-time or temporary employees are very stable. Around 30% to more than 60% of them would return to work regularly in each event, with some even transferring to be a full-time staff after a while. These highly experienced employees help to ensure the quality of services at AsiaWorld-Expo."
Chau Chuen Heung, MH, JP, Vice-chairperson, Islands District Council said, "Tung Chung, Lantau is an emerging community. The many commercial and tourism facilities, as well as large enterprises, such as AsiaWorld-Expo and a number of hotels nearby, Ngong Ping Cable Car, the Airport and Hong Kong Disneyland, provide substantial room for further development in the area. On the other hand, for the purpose of taking care of their home or studying at school, the housewives, middle-aged adults and young students in the Tung Chung community have a certain need for part-time or temporary jobs. Working in the community does not only help them to gain more working experience and increase the family income, but also enhances their sense of belonging, which will be beneficial to community development. The AsiaWorld-Expo Job Fair in Tung Chung is an excellent testament of the coordination among the community organizations, the business enterprises and the Government. I am looking forward to the further cooperation between our community and AsiaWorld-Expo as well as other companies with a role in facilitating the future development of the "Bridgehead Economy" of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge in Tung Chung and the Airport community."
Free shuttle bus service will be provided on the date of the job fair, with the circular route between Tung Chung MTR Station and Tung Chung Community Services Complex.
